Code of Conduct

As a member of the Hackney Independent Socialist Collective you have agreed to uphold the values and principles of the Collective and to promote them more widely. To ensure the Collective maintains a positive, effective and comradely spirit, as outlined in its constitution all members are asked to adhere to the following Code of Conduct.  Violations may result in you being asked to leave the Collective. HISC appreciates your commitment to maintaining a positive and ethical environment and is excited to have your input to the HISC. 

Respect and Inclusivity 

● Treat everyone with respect, regardless of their background, beliefs, or affiliations – this includes but is not limited to: race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, gender identity, sexuality, and disability. 

● Embrace and celebrate diversity and create an inclusive environment where all individuals feel welcome and valued. 

Professionalism

● Conduct yourself in a kind and professional manner at all times, both online and offline. 

● Refrain from engaging in personal attacks, offensive language, or any form of harassment of others, including volunteers and candidates from other campaigns and organisations. 

Integrity and Honesty

● Uphold the highest standards of integrity and honesty in all interactions.

● Avoid spreading misinformation and ensure that any shared information which originates from the Collective, is accurate, verified and endorsed by the Collective. 

Confidentiality

● Respect the confidentiality of campaign strategies, Collective meetings and plans. 

● Do not share internal campaign discussions or materials without explicit permission. 

● Adhere to data protection legislation and if in doubt, check before sharing personal information.  

Compliance with Laws and Regulations

● Familiarise yourself with and adhere to all relevant laws and regulations governing election campaigns. 

● Report any legal concerns or issues to the Collective’s Executive promptly. 6. Collective Agreement and Campaign Messaging

● Do not advocate on behalf of the HISC for personal political beliefs that conflict with the Collective’s core principles or collectively agreed political lines. 

● When campaigning, promote the agreed messaging, using the marketing material produced by the HISC. 

Communication 

● Communicate respectfully with fellow HISC members, the HISC Executive and with members of the community. 

● Report any concerns or conflicts to the Collective Executive in a timely manner. 

Safety and Well-being

● Prioritise the safety and well-being of yourself, other campaigners and members of the public during campaign activities. 

● Follow any safety guidelines or protocols provided for campaigning. 9. Teamwork 

● Collaborate effectively with fellow HISC members, being respectful of differences and recognising that teamwork is essential for success.

● Stay open to learning and adapting to new information and approaches and  provide constructive feedback to help improve operations. 

Media Engagment

● HISC members are asked to engage with the media on behalf of the Collective only with explicit authorisation from the Collective’s Executive.

● Any media inquiries or requests for comments should be directed to the Collective’s Executive or Councillors. This policy is in place to ensure consistency and accuracy in the Collective’s messaging and to avoid any unintended consequences.
