Kwame Otiende for London Fields

Kwame Otiende, Green candidate for London Fields

Kwame has lived and worked in Hackney for over 20 years, runs one of Hackney’s most popular grassroots venues and a food bank. He understands the pressures residents face around housing, the cost of living, pressure on businesses and public services. Through this work, Kwame has built trusted relationships with residents, artists, local businesses, police, and council officers, balancing creativity with practical problem-solving. Kwame says, “I want to bring a fresh, practical perspective to council representation. Listening, acting, and working collaboratively to improve public services, support vulnerable groups, and strengthen community engagement.”

Working together for London Fields Ward

What we are building here is historic for Hackney, and rare elsewhere too. Two groups working together with a shared local message, choosing collaboration over confrontation, because Hackney needs action, not political point scoring. For two years, Green Councillors have worked closely with three ex-Labour councillors who formed the Hackney Independent Socialist Collective (HISC) at the Town Hall.

We are not the same party, and we won’t always agree on everything. We work together where we have common ground, and are open and honest with residents about where we differ.

For the May 2026 local elections in London Fields Ward, the Greens are standing alongside Sarah Byrne from the Hackney Independent Socialist Collective and ask for your support for us all as part of a team dedicated to real change.

Sarah Byrne is a teacher and parent living in London Fields for over 25 years. Her children were born in the Homerton and went to local schools. She is the current president of Hackney National Education Union focussing on the funding crisis in our schools, which disproportionately affects SEND pupils, opposing school closures, and for inclusive education for all children. Her key priorities if elected, would be schools, housing and to divest pension funds from weapons associated with the genocide in Gaza.
